 The Landmarks Advisory Commission acts as an advisory body to the Planning Commission. Agendas that include a decision by this Commission are noticed, posted and open to the public.


The Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission is composed of three members, two of the three must reside inside the Dallas Urban Growth Boundary.  Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the the City Council .

The Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission responsibilities include:
  • Creating and maintaining the Historic Resource Survey (Local Landmark Register) consistent with the standards of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). 
  • Making recommendations to the Planning Commission for designation of qualifying historic resources.
  • Employing the procedures and criteria as described in Section 2.10.070 of the Dallas Development Code (Treatment of Historic Resources listed in the Local Landmark Register).
