The City of Dallas Building Department administers the current Oregon Specialty Codes and issues permits for structural, mechanical, and plumbing disciplines for all types of development.

Electrical permits are issued through Polk County Building Department - Ph: 503.623.9237.

Current adopted codes and design standards are as follows: 

Building Code:        2010 Oregon Structural Specialty Code.
Residential Code:    2008 Oregon Residential Specialty Code.
Mechanical Code:   2010 Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code.
Plumbing Code:      2008 State of Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code.
Fire Code:              2010 Oregon Fire Code
Electrical Code:      Provided by Polk County Building Department.
Basic Wind Speed: 100 mph (3 second gust)    Exposure:    B
Seismic Design Category:  D1
Snow Load:            25 psf
Frost Depth:           12 inches
Soil Classification:   Geotechnical Report is required to determine soil conditions.

Building permits are generally required for an expansion, remodel, and all new construction.  For information about whether your project will require a permit, please call 503.831.3567 before you begin.

Bring or mail the permit and payment of fees to the Building Department.

Instructions when calling the City of Dallas Building Inspection Request Line:

Please have the following information ready:

  1. Type of inspection wanted
  2. Permit number
  3. Address
  4. Date and time (morning or afternoon) that inspection is desired
    • Note:  You may request an a.m. or p.m. inspection.  We will do our best to accomodate your request.  However, we cannot guarantee inspections at your requested time; inspection will be performed at some time during the scheduled day.
  5. Name of person requesting inspection
  6. Time and date of call
  7. Contractor's name
