Parks & Recreation

Overview
The Parks and Recreation Department serves the community as a recreational resource for local events and classes offered by the City as well as those offered by local nonprofit, civic, and government organizations. The staff is also responsible for the Sounds of Summer program.

The Parks Advisory Board
Makes recommendations to the City Council on issues pertaining to Parks and Recreation within the City. The board is dedicated to ensuring the City's Parks and Recreation programs are of the highest quality and standards. The Parks Advisory Board has recently completed work on the Parks Master Plan.

Parks Division
Responsibilities & Services
The Parks Division must maintain:
  • All park facilities and trails
  • Portable and stationary picnic tables and benches
  • Fireplaces, fire pits, and barbecues
  • Playground areas, including slides, swings,
    merry-go-rounds, and more
  • Over 29 acres of ball fields including the Kids. Inc. baseball fields, the Lyle School Girls' Softball Complex, and Strader Field
  • Shelter buildings with hot and cold water
  • Two horseshoe courts
  • Restroom facilities
  • Open play areas
  • Numerous shrub beds and flower gardens
Staff also completes:
  • Painting the facilities
  • Mowing, weeding, planting, and edging
  • Watering, fertilizing, and spraying
Service Projects
The Parks Division is fortunate to have volunteers work in the numerous parks in Dallas throughout the season. If you are interested in volunteering or performing a service projects please contact the Parks Department at 503.831.3502.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Parks Division is always interested in providing volunteer opportunities. We have sponsored projects from various individuals and organized groups and civic clubs.
