Urban Renewal Facade Improvement Grant Program

As part of the Dallas Urban Renewal Agency’s commitment to enliven and improve the appearance of buildings downtown, the Urban Renewal Agency designated funds to support matching grants for façade improvements within the 500-900 blocks of Main Street.

Grants up to $10,000 are available for the following types of improvements
Category 1 (Eligible for 75% match):
  • Exterior Painting, consistent with approved historic color palettes.
  • Projecting Signs,non-internally illuminated
  • Repairs to exterior facades, including masonry repair (front and side facades are eligible)
Category 2 (Eligible for 50% match):
  • Repair or replacement of building features (e.g. cornices, doors, decorative detail, windows, display lighting)
  • Exterior Lighting
  • Installation of new awnings
Project Eligibility
  • The applicant must be the property owner or a tenant with permission from the owner;
  • There must be no delinquent bills, charges, or taxes due to the City;
  • The project must meet all state and local building codes and zoning requirements;
  • Projects must be located in the 500-900 blocks of Main Street; and
  • Projects must result in permanent improvements to commercial buildings.
Program Requirements
  • Grant approval is required prior to work commencing. Grant funds are dispersed on a reimbursement basis.
  • Projects must be completed within 12 months of approval.
  • Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis.
